Larimar Stone

Larimar

Larimar stone, also known as blue pectolite and dolphin stone, is a pectolite crystal, found on islands in the Caribbean. It is a relatively new metaphysical crystal, first being mined in the 1970s, although it was first discovered earlier in the century.

The name “Larimar” comes from a combination of Larissa and Mar and was given to the stone by a Dominican who named the stone after his daughter Larissa and Mar, the Spanish word for sea.

Reflecting the azure blue waters of the Caribbean, Larimar is a recently discovered rare gemstone found in only one mine site on our Planet. Often mistaken for translucent Turquoise or fine blue Jade, Larimar beautifully mirrors the waters surrounding its island origin.

Larimar is a variety of pectolite, or a rock composed largely of pectolite, an acid silicate hydrate of calcium and sodium. Although pectolite is found in many locations, none have the unique volcanic blue coloration of larimar.

Its powers are believed to helps us view events from different perspectives, to soften and enlighten, to heal the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual body.

Larimar stimulates the heart, throat, third eye and crown chakras promoting inner wisdom. It represents peace and clarity, healing and love. Larimar is reputed to be helpful for those experiencing stress and anxiety.

To understand the energy of the larimar stone it is important to look at this healing crystal’s elemental origins. According to geologists, the gemstone has a volcanic origin. It comes from the inner fires of the earth, and may even be marked with threads of red coloring.
